Public Information Officer Training

When controversy arises, you get one chance to get your message out to the community through the media; this course will help to ensure you get it right. Topics include who should be the Public Information Officer (PIO), why wardens or jail administrators should rarely take on this task, what to expect in front of the camera, and how to prepare for the “ambush” interview. We will also discuss how to cultivate the media in a positive way so they are open to your side when there’s a problem. The course will require students to participate in multiple scenarios, prepare a sample press release and will include a videotaped and critiqued “news conference.”

Training Duration:  3 days

Target Audience: Full or part time PIO’s , institution CEO’s and any other personnel required to provide, prepare or deliver information to the media.
